Out of Canada’s ten main bottled wine suppliers, only Argentina, Spain, Portugal and South Africa have increased their exports.
The value of bottled wine imports to Canada decreased by 5.0% in 2009 with respect to 2008, as imports went down from USD 1,391 million to USD 1,322 million. France was the main supplier of this product, with a 23% share during 2009. However, the value of Canadian imports from France dropped by 9.3% during this period.
Similarly, in Italy, which ranked second on the list, shipments to Canada fell by 3.8%. Imports from Australia, Canada’s third most important bottled wine supplier, showed the steepest decline, with an 18.8% drop.
On the other hand, wine imports from Argentina saw the greatest increase, with a 50.7% rise, going up from USD 54 million in 2008 to USD 81 million in 2009. As a result, bottled wine shipments from our country, which accounted for 3.9% of the total bottled wine imported to Canada in 2008, went up to 6.1% in 2009.
